Instructions

For instructions on how to conduct air sampling and who to send samples to!

Thank you for joining the citizen science phase of this project! Now, what to expect next?

Now that you have been selected to participate in this exciting project, here's what's happening next!

Sampling will take place once over each of the four seasons over the course of the year! You will receive a sampling package from your regional laboratory before each sampling timepoint, which will contain:

  • An Instructions Pamphlet

  • Sampling Objectives

  • 2 Air Sampling Films

  • 2x Small Envelopes

  • 1x Prepaid Return Envelope

After completing your sampling and logging your sampling information on the mobile app, just send your samples back to your regional laboratory using the prepaid return envelope!

How to place the air sampler:

  1. Please wash your hands well before starting the process, with soap and water, and if possible, rub with 70% alcohol or hand sanistiser after washing.

  2. Remove the seals from the adhesive strips on the back side of the sampler and place the air sampler facing up in the chosen location. This can be an outdoor area or on the first floor (e.g. on the window sill of the house or workplace). In the case of a rain, make sure the sampler is in a place protected from rain and water.

  3. Press the sampler into place with your clean hand, so that is firmly attached by the adhesive strips.

  4. Once well attached, carefully remove the top white label from the air sampler, avoiding touching the adhesive and paper too much, and place it in the small envelope provided with each sampler.

  5. Leave the air sampler exposed for a minimum of 10 hours.

  3. Take the white label (which was stored in the small envelope) and reattach it on the surface of the adhesive, avoiding any part of the adhesive from being exposed.

  4. Place the air sampler with the white label already reattached inside the small envelope.

  5. Place the small envelope inside the prepaid return envelope and send it back to your regional lab according instructions.
